OVERVIEW
Can the ocean draw? The ocean is a natural artist. The animated waves wash the sand to the shore. The sand and the sound working together to record a unique moment of the ocean and the place. Beach becomes the intersection of the nature and the human occupied land.  This project is the visualization of South California coast’ sound through sand. The two mediums interact with each other to form unique visual patterns to represent unique moment through a speaker.

Process

Sound Visualization via Cymatics



Cymatics refers to the process of  displacement made possible by vibrating the surface of a plate or membrane. By placing a paper on top of a speaker playing sound collected from the ocean, the sand from that beach was able to move around with the vibration.
